My apologies for the sketchiness of these notes. I didn’t expecct to be making them public when I took them.

Saturday 20 January

You have two important centers: a low center of gravity around pelvis/navel, and a high center around chest. To develop an appropriate posture, that might be described as a tilted axis, put the low center of gravity over your heels, so your toes are coming off the ground. Now move your high center up and forward so your weight is over the middle of your feet. This creates tension between the centers. Maintain the tension throughout the dance.

She said something about the floor pushing you to your new location, when resistance is removed.

Collection means collecting yourself into one place, pulling everything together and concentrating it. Drag your foot across the floor. When done well this can lead the follow’s collection in steps such as linear sacadas.

The follow resists the step, but when she takes it, the leader can come with her.

Elbows should be seeking the other person, especially the leader L follow R elbows seek each other.

Do not open the door with your arms. Create a space to move through with your hips.

We did: leader open R hip, R foot diagonally back: follow steps L forward. Leader changes weight and pivots to R: follow steps R forward: leader collects and changes feet back to parallel. We did this also on L.

Sunday 21 January

Psoas is key

  • Twist leg to lead pivot

  • Twist torso with tension to lead extension.

  • Turn torso and hips to lead steps

Back side forward as one step with locked knees.
